No. 103: Grizzbolt

people said it was an Electabuzz ripoff but it's clearly a Zangoose ripoff

This guy kicks ass. He's like an electric Totoro with big-ass claws, and that's something I can get behind. Really solid proportions and classic Gen 1 design sensibilities. The only problem is that random black streak going into his cheek, it reminds me of how Yuji from JJK got a scar at the corner of his mouth at some point and it served to distract me every time I saw it. Wasn't even a cool scar. Made me wish he had a matching one on the other side of his mouth, because then it would look like clown makeup or something.

  1. my hot take on Palworld is that by blatantly taking elements from existing Pokemon, it creates a roster of monsters who actually feel like they could be real Pokemon. Perhaps it's creatively bankrupt that they didn't make their own aesthetic, but if the goal was to be a Poke-clone, they succeeded where others failed.

  2. Having looked up Yuji, I diagnose both with mouth herpes.

  3. LOL I forgot we always get an April 1st post

I also forgot Palworld existed. some designs are genuinely good. the ones that aren't trying to look like an amalgamation of existing Pokemon, usually? people may compare Lamball and Wooloo, Chillet and Furret and so on but that doesn't mean they truly look any similar. In other words, most of the "obvious parallels but doesn't really mirror the design" Pals

then there's Cremis who Is a very good one by virtue of Just Being Eevee directly. Daedream Is literally peak Pal design though. doesn't look like anything specific but still very Pokemon coded. the galaxy fluff Is just very unique and cool

yeah. people throwing comparisons around without thinking about It. this guy's design Is actually good; It doesn't look too much like Zangoose at first ( three claws Instead of two, actual clawed feet ), just the very specific markings. he has a Gengar-esque face, which Is cool because they weren't trying to make a Gengar-like concept or parallel, they just used that design element for something new and unrelated, which looks pretty good
