No. 670: Floette

Topic of the day - Which Pokemon would be good to eat, like say, for Thanksgiving?

So, at least this one is more Pokemon than prop. Looks cute, with the twintails and spade-shaped standy bit down there.

But, it aggravatingly remains purely Fairy-type. Why? It's very obviously got a flower in its hands, and is green and biz. Why not Fairy/Grass? would that have been too much? It would have been very nice with that, but as it is it's just a pleasant design with a strange typing.

Maybe I'll take this time to vent a little about how the Fairy Type didn't really help matters that much. I mean, sure, it provided something else for Poison and Steel to be good against, and gave another option for Dealing with Dragos (an excellent series of novels btw), but why did it have to be good against Dark and Fighting, as well? Fighting I can see, it's a very strong offensive type with only two weaknesses, but Dark? Dark is only good for slapping spirits and spiritualists, and does that job only slightly better than Ghost. But urg, I found my Dark types getting wrecked by random Moon Blasts left and right in my runthrough.

I guess they made it just so that all the little girls could run their girly-ass Pokemon and wreck the big bad coolguy Pokemon that their older brothers ran. I'd still rather have a rebalancing of the whole chart, honestly.

what were we talking about? Which Pokemon to eat? I want to eat a Luvdisc, I believe I've mentioned this before. it just looks like it would make a nice steak. Or maybe a Farduckeotto would be good. That's a Farfetch'd stuffed inside a Psyduck stuffed inside a Pidgeotto, btw.

NAPACE turned 4 earlier this month

and we all forgot. Or at least, I did. and I didn't see any of you mentioning it.

I've been busy with finals and some other projects, and I'm going to be busy again this week as I fly all around the country to visit each member of my scattered family and personally wish them a happy Thanksgiving like some sort of Turkey-themed Santa, but I intend to pick up the pace a bit for December.

anyway, wow. 4 years (nearly) ago, I just got bored and started putting my thoughts on a blog thing. Back then, I never would have imagined that I'd be here now, still doing pretty much the same thing. Of course, back then, there were only 4 generations of Pokemon.

Looking back, I feel like I've actually drifted towards a more reasoned, logical approach with my reviews. Especially with some of these new guys, I'm formulating my thoughts as I write them, instead of laying down shit I'd had stewing in my brain for years. Going through Kanto and Johto was mainly an emotive journey, but in the past year or so I think I've tried to be more objective.

I think the amount of "humor" is perhaps lower than it was during, say, Hoenn, but perhaps the trade-off is more informative content, so yay? I guess y'all are still entertained, as I'm getting more readers than ever.

Lastly, that Pokemon romhack of Emerald I said I was doing? just about ready for a beta release. I want to wait a little bit, for the people playing all the crap that came out last Friday to finish up, before I release, tho. I'm thinking December 1st sounds good. so watch for it then.

thanks again for reading and commenting (keep that up, I love talking shit with people), and finish up X or Y already!!

No. 669: Flabebe

hell no, I'm not putting those dumb little marks over the e's. I haven't been doing it for "Pokemon" this entire time, and I'm certainly not going to start now.

Well, here's our first Fairy-type of the generation, and it looks like it ought to be a Grass type. Fairy/Grass at the most. But no, solid Fairy. huh. It'll go on to learn mainly Grass moves, which just makes things even more confusing.

but anyway, Flabebe reminds me of a Kirby enemy, one of those cute things that isn't really doing much until BAM you just wreck it's life with your awful, bottomless appetite.

and apparently it comes in multiple colors, but screw that noise. Jesus, Flabebe, you really think you're hot stuff, don't you? putting fancy-pants marks on your e's, having alt colors, carrying around a flower that's not technically part of your actual body (one of the few Pokemon to do so), it's just obvious you want special treatment, huh?

well you're not gonna get it from me, lady. go sit in a field and stuff dandelions up your ears, I don't even care.

No. 668: Pyroar

have you read Doubutsu no Kuni? you should read Doubutsu no Kuni.

So I'm a little disappointed on two fronts - first, it didn't get a more badass or useful typing. and secondly, it didn't grow a mane made out of flames. like, that's a gimme, Pokemon. that's been a thing in Kirby since forever, and it's always great.

The actual hair is alright, it's got the Fire Blast kanji in there, that's cool. I like how the female one has this long ponytail-esque thing going on, and how both designs are just subdued and straightforward. the banding and lines in the face give it away, but other than that these could easily be mistaken for 1st gen Pokes. which is good to see, because it shows that Gamefreak still knows what they did right.

all-in-all, a solid Pokemon with a few missed opportunities. or should I say opurrtunities. oh ho ho ho theyarecats ho ho ho

No. 667: Litleo

has it seriously taken six hundred and sixty Pokemon to finally make a lion one?

It's another cooltype/Normal Pokemon, which is obviously much better than being pure Normal, and probably better than being ANOTHER pure Fire-type. it's just nothing to get excited over.

speaking of excited, Litleo here looks excited out of his mind. he's gonna pounce on something, and his eyeballs are just about bursting out of his head in anticipation. I haven't seen someone look forward to something so much since Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

anyway, his little head crest glows, it's kinda cute. and Litleo keeps the design and colors simple, which I can respect.

No. 666: Vivillon

Vivillon is the anti-christ. you can tell, because it has the number of the Beast, and because if you take the letters in its name and turn them into numbers and then divide by 5 and then code them into musical notes, it plays a song that sounds like "I am the Devil" backwards

So yeah, another butterfly. we've seen this before, and it's getting old. Hell, it got old the second goddamn time. It's ancient freaking history. By now, turning in a Bug/Flying type in the early game is practically paleolithic.

yet, Vivillon brings one quirk to an otherwise completely unnoticeable Pokemon - collectible colors schemes!

Mine was High Plains, which is alright. I like the look of Continental and Elegant a lot, as well as Sun and Polar. The rest are fine, except Monsoon and Ocean, which are just a little too pixel-art for me. Although the Pokeball design is kinda neat.

But yeah. Vivillon learns a better set of moves than Butterfree, and is just plain better stat-wise. And it carries the pixel-powder theme from its previous forms. So actually, maybe it's better than I thought. Maybe this is Butterfree done right. and I can't hate a Pokemon that's literally just an improvement on something I slammed long ago. It's a rehash for sure, but it actually is somewhat decent (almost) this time around. so that deserves credit.

No. 665: Spewpa

looks a little like a cozy owl-bug

but holy poo-balls, could they have come up with a less-appetizing name than Spewpa. you know what we use the word "spew" to describe? when vomit comes out of a throat. or sewage out of a faulty pipe. or foul smog into our precious atmosphere.

anyway, Spewpa turns out to look cute, even though it's dropping it's shit left and right. get it together, Spewpa. Evolve hands or something for godssakes. don't just drop those Chiclets all over the place.

It's at certainly more interesting than another cocoon, though.

No. 664: Scatterbug

you see, this is what happens when I don't set defined goals for myself. I just update every other every other day.

well, this bug kinda looks like a shit. like a stuffed animal of a caterpillar, really. or one of those vaguely-defined "cutie uglies" or whatever that you used to see around in places. does anyone else know what I'm talking about? I certainly don't.

Scatterbug cannot possibly support its noggin with its tiny body, and I'm tired of all these crappy worm-things. The kicker is, Weedle and Caterpie are available in the very same route, so it's hard to justify picking up this stinker instead of one of the others.

No. 663: Talonflame

there's a fried chicken joke in here somewhere if you want to look for it

Yo okay, this bird, THIS FRIKKIN BIRD. Fire/Flying, time to run a pain train on all the Grass types I see. Ice? don't worry, I'll melt it. Ground? don't worry, can't even touch me. As long as it avoids any flying rocks, it'll be fine.

and Flame Body is a based ability. activates all the damn time for me.

The design itself, reminds me of one of those Chinese war-falcon things. kinda. three stripes on the tail, nice touch, flame body paint, hot as heck, and cruel curved talons.

It's perhaps a little on the busy side, but I think the red specks actually add a feather-like texture to the thing. Now, the name is butts, but aside from that I've no problems whatsoever. Best starting bird BY A WIDE MARGIN. You know, between this and the end-game birds from Gen 5, I think I might be getting over my avian-hating complex.

No. 662: Fletchinder

hot doggy, has some genie been listening to my wishes?

First, Diggersby is Ground/Normal. and now, thank the heavens above, the generic bird has become Fire/Flying. this is just spectacular news all around.

The design is similar in theme to before, but leaner and meaner. Notice the tail has two stripes, now. and we're incorporating more yellow into the design, which because I am psychic I know will lead into the next stage. (actually I'm not psychic I peeked ahead)

(actually I didn't have to peak because I use Talonflame on my main team in X)

(why am I whispering)

No. 661: Fletchling

oh, the red red robin comes bob-bob-bobbin' along...

pretty cute. reminds me of Pitch, one of Kirby's animal friends, and the best transformation you can get out of Stone/Cutter in Kirby 64.

I kind of like this more abstract style of bird, rather than just making an ugly fat bird like we've seen with Pidgey, Tailow, and that other pidgeon whose name I even forgot. more cartoonish is good, in this case. and I like that single tail feather just stickin' on up there.

though, in the end, it's still a Normal/Flying piece of crap, but it's a nice piece of crap. so nice, I can't even really call it crap anymore.

No. 660: Diggersby

whoa this is a fat rabbit

It's also a fat GROUND-type rabbit, which is such an amazing concept I'm surprised no one's thought of it before. The regional rodent being anything other than Normal-type, I mean. If Linoone turned out to be Normal/Electric, and Raticate was Normal/Dark, or anything, they would be much better. Because Normal is the most boring, generic type possible.

Diggersby has big strong ears, which are pretty neat. It's also wearing a fuzzy belt, which is slightly less neat. also it appears to be in need of a shave. Basically, it's your uncle Stuart, except as a cartoon bunny who can dig around in the dirt real well.

that makes it sound awful, and I apologize. Diggersby is alright. it's pretty scuzzy, but refreshingly not a piece of crap.

ps - This marks the end of my October Challenge. I only missed one day, and that was yesterday, but in my defense, it was my birthday, and I was quite drunk. Expect things to slow down from here on out, but hopefully not to Summer levels. also, thanks to you all for making this my most-viewed month ever. NAPACE exists to tell all y'all plebeians what's what, so I'm glad there are a lot of plebeians getting educated.

jk you lot are wonderful thank you
