No. 971: Greavard

 it's a doggy dog world
Greavard artwork by Ken Sugimori
One of the more muppet-like Pokemon I've ever seen, but I can dig it. (get it?) Greavard hides underground, but its candle sticks up, which is fantastic. The concept is great, and the design doesn't get in the way of itself - a simple color scheme is enough.

Overall: 8/10

  1. Was anyone else very confused when first encountering this one that it has a candle but it isn't fire type, and it digs itself in but isn't a ground type, and it has a headstone later but it isn't a rock type?

  2. I like the design, but I have a few greavances (Eh? Eh?)
First: I don't really like the anatomy of its paws and how they connect to legs and the body
Second: And this applies only to the 3D model - it has a furry texture on all of its face, including the teeth. The thing has furry teeth, I hate that.

    1. yes, I couldn't figure out how to phrase it so I didn't mention it, but there's something odd about the way its teeth are just part of its jaw, thus furry outside but fleshy inside.

  3. This guy and his evo were designed by Kazuyuki Kurashima, the same guy who worked on LiveALive, Moon and Super Mario RPG. I can just see this big-headed dog rendered as a 16-bit sprite, isometrically fighting against Mario and Mallow.
