Gigantamax no. 11: Garbodor

Eight turds a-stinking
There's a precedent for gigantic trash monsters, look no further than Hedorah. Gigantamax Garbodor, though, confuses me. It's gigantic, but how come the things its sucked up are all toys? I can see the Substitute doll in there, even. But that makes the scale weird, because it's not actually big enough to have real buildings and cruise ships in it, but it's clearly too big for those to be toy-sized items. That ship has to be the size of a Subaru Outback. What's going on here?

They had an idea, but got too cutesy with it, and then forgot about how it would actually look in practice. Plus I still hate Garbodor, in general.

Overall: 200/1000

  1. I agree with this. It had the potential to be a truly horrendous dumpster monster but they just took the safe way of just editing the existing design a little and add those weird toys without any explanation.

  2. I'm pretty sure the idea is that those toys were already part of Garbodor's trash body and they simply also became max-sized with the Gigantamax form. Of course that doesn't explain why they don't show up in the normal form of the mon, but that's just how I interpreted it.

...And taking another look at it, I realize I've never noticed the little Magikarp skeleton poking out of the back till just now. Cute little reference to cartoon trash bins always having a lone fish skeleton in them.

  3. The in-game explanation is that gigantamax/dynamax doesn't actually make the Pokémon grow, but is simply a projection

  4. So by this logic is the tree on Snorlax's stomach supposed to be a sapling? The reason I really don't like Dynamax as a concept is because it feels like there's zero consistency between any of its features. And the cop out explanation of it being an "energy projection" ruins the fun of the giant Pokemon concept because none of this is real, so why even bother having Snorlax grow a tree. (Not to mention how lazy it is to not give them new types or abilities, just a new move that they basically have to use for their STAB)
