Steven Stone of the Hoenn Elite Four

a dude cool enough to have a last name, a rarity in the Pokemon world

Steven is such a better Champion than Wallace. I mean, Wallace is alright, but it's redundant to have a Water Gym and then a Water guy in the Elite Four. And Steven is just so damn great, he makes a lot of "good" characters look "okay".

First, check that swag style. Black suit, purple stripes, red cravat. striking effect. subdued, yet you can tell he means business. but the best part is those steel arm rings, and steel rings on his fingers. Did you know he was a Steel-type specialist? maybe not, because he's not being garish about it, but you can pick up the hints. Also those rings look badass.

Mr. Stone doesn't go all-out to make the sort of impression Lance does, or have quite the attitude that Blue carries, but he certainly looks in-control and makes for an exciting climactic battle. and like I said, the dude knows cool. super-smooth super-swag steel-plated cool, that is.

Overall: 10/10

In the remake...

  1. I always thought that he was just some archaeologist, and the pokemon he got were pokemon he found along the way. The Champion never needs to have a type speciality.

  2. Yeah, having a type specialty makes it somewhat easier to defeat them. Luckily in newer gens you have enough different typing combinations to mix things up.

So I assume you have your Pokemon X/Y copy by now!? Can we expect a first-impresson post next, as you've managed to perfectly end the Hoenn region the same time it came out?

  3. he doesn't really have a type speciality. hes got three steel, two rock, and one ground and all of them dual typed.

    1. Still counts as type specialist of steel.
He knows how to use those, and have some other types to back him up in case you have a firetype.
      Champs are senseable.

  4. Okay... I NEED to ask this and it would mean a lot for me - could you, after you review all of the Gym Leaders and Elite Four members also review the most badass trainer in the world - Red? He's the ultimate champion of the games, I think it'd be great to hear your first impression when you finally reached the top of Mt. Silver and saw who was waiting for you there.

    1. Not as badass after getting beat by Gold :P
But I agree that player Characters and rivals need to reviewed aswell. Based on their arc they will surely be themost interesting ones.

  5. I love how those champs have a certain type going but not overuse that type.
    Lance is dragon
    Wallace is water
Steven is steel (and only recently I found out its my fave type)
Alder is Bug (which I find friggin awesome to use)

Cynthia and Blue bug me however
Blue being a prick has an excuse having not a specialized team, but cynthia? Fuck her, really

  6. Now that I think of it, when playing for the first time I had this theory that Steven would turn out to be the last child of the Winstrate family.

Probably didn't pay attention when his father told that he was his father.
