Samurott is a samurai otter, yeah, okay. That seems logical.
BUT THEN WHY DOESN'T HE LOOK ANYTHING LIKE IT
He doesn't have a samurai kabuto helmet at all, he has a mustache, sure, but it's just kinda gigantic and getting in the way, and the only plate armor he has is on his legs. He doesn't have a sword (I realize that he actually has swords that he keeps hidden in those front armor parts, but those swords shouldn't be very long and how can he even use them, he's a quadruped, which is strange, since the previous ones were bipedal. This aside has now become longer than the original statement, but that's just how we roll at NAPACE).
Basically, I have no idea what the shit happened here. Is this what Gamefreak thinks otters look like? Why isn't it a goddamn Water/Fighting type? This is a big sloppy mess and I don't like it at all. Okay, I like it a little bit, but not very much.

pretty much. Samurott is fine and whatever, but when you look at dewott its like "aw snap, what's this guys evolution gonna be?!" and then...you get this thing

Already said what I think about Samurott on Dewott's entry, but I've been planning to say something here if you never brought it up sinse the Serperior entry that has to do with all of the 5th gen starters.
ReplyDeleteA lot people know this already, but the 5th gen starters represent 3 roles in ancent Japanese gonvernment. Serperior is the Lord, Emboar is the Monk, Samurott is the Samurai.
So here's what I don't get and find really dumb about them overall (even though I like their designs overall). Isn't 5th gen supposed to be Amercia themed? Isn't the Unova region more or less Manhattan? Then why on earth are the starters, the "posterboys" of every generation, JAPANESE themed? It just makes no sense to me.
No no no, the starters are based on 3 different cultures. Samurot is based on samurai in Japan. Emboar is based on Chinese folklore Journey to the West, and Serperior is based on European royalty. So they are kinda universal themed.
